MADISONVILLE, Ky. (WEHT) -- An investigation begins into an 8-year-old boy's death, following a Madisonville North Hopkins High School and Hopkins County Central High School fundraiser.
Police say the boy had eaten some strawberries from that fundraiser. At this time, there's no indication of foul play.
In the early morning hours -- family members of the boy say they found the child in bed not breathing.
Not long after being taken to the emergency room, we're told he passed away.
"Everything right now points to an allergic reaction or anaphylactic shock. But again, this is all preliminary," says Major Jason McKnight from the Madisonville Police Department. "An autopsy was just performed today, and those final results won't be available for several weeks, if not months."
Debbie Enoch was among those who had strawberries, and she was planning on baking pies with them this weekend.
"We're just devastated and praying for these people around here, and especially the ones that lost their child. So, it's just...it's just sad," says Enoch.
