The Man-woman relationship before marriage is not permissible in the Islamic religion due to the verses mentioned in Surat al-Maidah and Surat al-Ahzab. Allah has stated that it is not permissible to establish a relationship between a man and a woman who is ajanabiyya to him (lit. foreign, i.e., marriageable). The word “akhdan” in this verse means intimate friend or companion, and in this case refers to a lover. Allah has also commanded women not to speak with soft, sensual voices with a man who is ajnabi (lit. foreign, meaning one to whom marriage is not forbidden) so as to avoid lust. Allah ta'ala in Surat al-Ahzab warns against being too complacent with speech in order to avoid disease.

However, it is permissible to establish love or friendship relations between marriageable women and men. Allah has ordained that a man can marry whom he wills among women as long as he does not bond in marriage with more than four women under his care and responsibility. This condition requires him to deal justly among them according to Shari’ah, including overnight stays and spending. If he lacks the ability to do so, he should suffice with one woman.
