Anna Maria Kaufmann, a Canadian opera and musical singer, explains in this video how speaking several languages was an advantage for her, in her life on and off stage.
"When I sing a song and understand what I'm saying, I can pass it on in a much better way."
Anna Maria Kaufmann was born in Canada and completed her training as a singer in Germany. Her repertoire ranges from classical singing and opera through to musicals and swing. In Germany, Anna Maria Kaufmann is best known for playing the leading role of Christine in the musical "Phantom of the Opera". She was also the first person ever to sing the national anthem for the German national men's football team at the friendly between Germany and Canada, and also sang the anthem before the final of the 1996 European Championships at Wembley Stadium. In April 2012 Anna Maria Kaufmann released her CD "It's A Good Day!", for which she has recorded 13 songs from the thirties, forties and fifties, sung in five different languages.
