The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension has released new details on the officer-involved shooting in Brooklyn Center that resulted in the death of a 21-year-old man.
Brooklyn Center police were called to a home Saturday, Aug. 31, on a report of a man threatening his grandparents with a hammer and a knife. According to the BCA, officers tried to physically subdue the man, identified as Kobe Dimock-Heisler. They then deployed Tasers, but to no avail. The BCA said Dimock-Heisler threatened the officers with a knife. That’s when two officers discharged their firearms, the agency said.
The BCA identified the three officers who discharged their weapons as:
Brandon Akers, who has been with the Brooklyn Center Police Department for eight years. Officer Akers discharged his Taser and his firearm.
Steven Holt, a Brooklyn Center police officer for five years, discharged his Taser.
Cody Turner, a 10-year veteran of the Brooklyn Center Police Department. Officer Turner discharged his Taser and his firearm.

Man Battled Mental Health Problems
A Star Tribune report says Dimock-Heisler battled severe depression, citing a mental health court order. The mental health order showed he had a history of threatening suicide. It stated how he posed “a substantial likelihood of causing physical harm.”
The BCA’s investigation is still ongoing, but it did say all the officers involved were wearing body cameras, capturing video of the incident.
