Higher Education in the Humanitarian Development Nexus: the role of higher education institutions in shaping national development trajectories
Representing unique perspectives from Brasil, Lebanon, Kenya and beyond, the discussion probes why higher education institutions and systems are critical to the fundamental transformations required to shift situations of conflict and fragility to post-conflict development and stability. Investment in higher education in emergency and humanitarian settings can anticipate and prepare refugee youth to break the cycle of conflict and create a sustainable future, whether in their host country, home country, or a third country. This panel touches on the variety of ways that higher education institutions and systems can influence progress toward sustainable development goals and highlights different global structures for engagement that can affect change in national development and peace outcomes.
