The painted monasteries in Romania are amongst the places I’ve always dreamed of visiting. I remember coming across photos of them years ago and thinking how beautiful they are. Can’t even believe we were able to visit! These monasteries in the Romanian region of Moldavia (not to be confused with the neighbouring country of Moldova) were built between 1487 and 1583. There are eight monasteries in total and they’re a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
