"It's funner to watch someone do a big air than do like a weak turn or something- I think it's a lot more exciting. Out here, it's good for the air because I think the water is light. You can go fast on these waves, and the sections they give you are like none other. You know, it's like only here can you get this certain kind of sections. You go fast, how ever big a wave you want to go on, and do an air- it'll let you. So you can go pretty much as high or big as you want." -Bruce Irons
Bruce wasn't much for the contest surfing thing in his days, but he did always shine when the waves got good. He says he just went on the Championship Tour to follow his brother and hang out with his friends and surf, but he did manage to win the two biggest contests in surf history- The Pipe Masters (2001) and The Quiksilver in Memory of Eddie Aikau (2004). He also adds a coveted Championship Tour Victory by taking out the 2008 Rip Curl Search Pro in Bali. All this to say that Bruce has nothing left to prove as far as his surfing goes.
