Our speaker is Patricia Raynor, a museum specialist who has been with the Smithsonian Institution since 1990 and currently serves as the Postal Museum’s Loan Coordinator. Ms. Raynor has a specialized interest in New Deal post office which were commissioned by the Treasury Department’s Section of Fine Arts for federal buildings in the mid-twentieth century. Ms. Raynor explores the thematic elements of several specific post office murals and reflects upon how these pieces were tied to the history, industry, and values of the hosting communities.
