The new Milwaukee Mid-Torque Impact Wrench M18 FUEL fits the bill for the majority of work in the typical shop. This is the model 2860 1/2" impact that is smaller, lighter and more compact than the full size version. Even still, the mid-torque offers 450 ft./lbs of fastening torque and 600 ft./lbs of breakaway torque.
We tested the Milwaukee M18 FUEL mid-torque our for ourselves to see how it would hold up to some real world testing. Our test includes totally disassembling a small block chevy engine, then immediately running in 10 spax screws that ranged in length from 6 1/2 to 8 1/2 inches in length. These spax screws were run through a 4x4 and into a 6x6. In addition, immediately following the spax screws, we rotated the tires on a 3/4 Ton Chevy Duramax 4x4 truck. The Milwaukee Mid-Torque impact wrench M18 FUEL handled the entire job without a hiccup, and the battery still had 3 of the 4 bars left.
