In this video, we discuss a strategy for smooth pedaling when shifting from extremely loud to extremely soft dynamics levels. I have seen passages containing these extreme shifts in dynamics give students a lot of trouble over the years, most often resulting in muddy pedal changes, or compromising with an unwritten rest in order to get a clear pedal change. Today’s video discusses a pedaling trick that can help you accomplish a clear pedal change WITHOUT inserting an artificial rest. I hope it helps you when you come across passages like this one we discuss from Rhapsody in G minor, Op.79 No.2 by Brahms.
