The 2S22 Bogdana is a new Ukrainian truck-mounted howitzer. It is fitted with a 155mm ordnance, which is compatible with standard NATO ammunition. This is a move for the Ukrainian military, which was previously using 152mm howitzers. Preliminary firing trials of this artillery system were completed in 2022. At the moment this howitzer is still being tested. It is not yet in service with the Ukrainian army.
Ukrainian artillery units suffered badly during the Russian military actions in 2014. A lot of heavy artillery systems were lost. Currently, the backbone of Ukrainian artillery consists of a large number of older 2S3 Akatsiya self-propelled howitzers. Around 500 of these howitzers are in service in Ukraine, though it is unclear how many of these artillery systems are combat-ready. There are some 2A65 Msta-B towed howitzers, around 130 units are available, and D-20 towed howitzers around 130 units are available.
Ukrainian Army also operates relatively small numbers of 2S19 Msta-S self-propelled howitzers, which are up to 40 units available, and 2S5 Giatsint self-propelled guns up to 24 units are available.
