Pre-recorded speech by H.E. Ambassador of the Republic of Iraq for the Iraq contribution to the London Festival of Architecture 2021 events.
The speech translation in English
Thank you all for being here today, four years after the destruction of Mosul. As you know, the heritage of Mosul is part of the history of the entire world. It’s through coming together like this that we can ensure that heritage and history is preserved.
Fittingly the word Mosul stands for “the linking point" in Arabic, connecting the East and West, and was central to the economic, cultural, political, and religious interactions between those regions. Today we are here with the supporting parties in showcasing the process of the recovery of one of Iraq’s most iconic cities. Reconstructing the Al-Nouri mosque complex is the start and a powerful symbol, not only because of its history, but also because its destruction and future reconstruction is an important part of the story of modern Iraq.
I want also to give thanks to all the entrants, the runners up and our winner.
The Spirit of Mosul dimmed somewhat through these painful years. Together we can revive a spirit of peaceful co-existence in Mosul and beyond.
Thank you for your efforts.
