I cannot tell you how elated I am for this lecture on Mother Kali's Tongue and Durga's lion! By Her grace alone, I intend to talk about the symbology there: why does Mā Kāli look like a Kiss poster?
We'll discuss this in these three ways:
1. Rajas, Tamas and Sattva, the Three Gunas of Samkhya and how they map on to Ma Kali's Tongue, Skin and Teeth. There is a wonderful secret teaching here about how to leverage our lower tendencies towards higher expressions of life. Also, here we will talk about Ma Durga's Lion and the Tarot card, Strength, if She so wills it!
2. The Three Tiers of Bliss in the Taittirya Upanishad/"ananda-mimamsa (analysis of Bliss and Meaning) to discuss how it maps on the the three Gunas. This is perhaps the subtlest teaching I have ever heard in my journey in spiritual life so far because it wholly accounts for why spiritual people are always happy and what the ultimate attainment is and why it's "ultimate" (na dukhena gurupani vichalyate, as Sri Krishna says in the Gita: "that which when attained nothing higher can be attained and that which not even the heaviest of sorrows can shake!)
3. The myth of Shakti stepping on Shiva and sticking her tongue out in surprise and shame and what the deeper meaning here might be for our Sadhana!
While the above was my intention, I didn't quite get to cover #2, so we'll take that up next week perhaps, by Her grace! We will discuss, God-willing, Ma Kali's Bowl of Blood (a symbol for aesthetic rapture which in Tantra is called cāmatkara) and Her blissful expressions.
Jai Mā!
All this is Her play.
