Mayor John Tory was joined by Toronto’s medical officer of health Dr. Eileen de Villa and Toronto Fire Chief Matthew Pegg to provide an update on the city’s COVID-19 cases and the ongoing response to the pandemic on Wednesday.
The City of Toronto announced Wednesday that more than 850 parks' amenities will reopen this week, two months after officials shut down all amenities in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Tory said that areas including basketball courts, picnic shelters, multi-use fields and other facilities will begin opening this weekend. He stated that the amenities will be subject to “quite specific physical distancing rules" and will be open for "casual use" rather than team sports.
The mayor also reinforced the importance of wearing face masks in areas where proper physical distancing cannot be maintained, and said that the City of Toronto is beginning the process to secure over 100,000 reusable masks for employees to use in their daily activities, including riding public transit.
