In this tutorial, we will focus on how to do Autotile in Godot 3? Don't worry if it isn't intuitive, the Godot 4 will have a better tilemap.
The first part is how to use tilemap with auto title, second is an explanation of how the Autotile is working.
The engine just detects the collision between tilemap and decides which to use. As a bonus, I recorded how to use collisions for this tilemap. The player as rigidbody will collide with this tilemap
