We camp and fish near Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore all the time, but never made it to the park. Sleeping Bear Dunes is a national park located northwest on Lake Michigan, in the state of Michigan. The dune is 450 feet tall and very, very, very steep, which I learned by experience.
I was looking for the big dune to climb and I was two miles off and ended up climbing a smaller one where most tourists seem to go. I asked the ranger if there was a closer one to climb and she didn’t know the one I saw on Google map.
After the family friendly dunes, I went searching for the more difficult climb.
It was harder than I thought. It looked easy at the top, but got steeper as you continued down.
If you think of trying it out, bring water and pace yourself.
