Hi, Folks !
Another change in direction...
My good friend QbrianT and I belong to a mutual chatboard, and a couple of years ago, when the subject of the Blues came up, I had told Brian that I'd spent the better part of the 1990's playing with Blues musicians, and that music was very natural for me to play.
He'd asked me to record a Blues tune for him to hear sometime...Well, Brian...It's sometime.
The really 1st big crossover Blues hit in the U.S.A. in late 1969 /early 1970, B.B. King recorded his version of this 1951 Roy Hawkins tune for his album, "Completely Well" and it was also a single which hit #15 on the Billboard charts in 1970, and gave B.B. King the huge hit he'd been searching for in his career. Here's my instrumental version of...
"The Thrill Is Gone" !
I wanted to use my Gibson B.B. King Custom "Lucille" guitar for most of the lead work, but my neck pickup wasn't working, so I used my Gibson ES-355 (a.k.a Big Red) for all the leads and solos, as the "Lucille" is based upon the ES-355 that B.B. used for many years. Both pick ups mixed with a bit of overdrive, and you've got the B.B. tone.
The melody was played on my Gibson CS-356 (a.k.a. Little Red) using the neck pickup, a bit of overdrive and a little Bigsby tremolo bar.
That's basically it for this one, but this will be the 1st in a series of Blues tunes to follow. Hope you enjoy, and all the BEST...DAN.
