In this interview with Infectious Diseases Hub, Peter Openshaw (Imperial College London, UK) discusses his research on the immunopathogenesis of respiratory viruses and understanding the significance of the host immune response. In addition, he gives us his thoughts on the importance of interactive, collaborative and interdisciplinary work to solve major scientific challenges and shares his concerns regarding the impact of Britain’s exit from the European Union.
Peter Openshaw is Professor of Experimental Medicine at Imperial College London and an Honorary Consultant Physician at the Imperial NHS Healthcare Trust. He is the first clinician to serve as President of the British Society for Immunology and has been involved in influencing policy for over 10 years; currently acting as vice-chair of the New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats Advisory Group.
