Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta has embarked on a major housing project that will see all Kenya Defence Forces soldiers and service personnel reside inside military quarters in the next five years.
The housing units will be constructed in the Roysambu military camp, Nyali Barracks, Gilgil Barracks, Kenya Army Barracks in Nanyuki, and Lanet Army barracks.
President Kenyatta launched the first phase of the project in Roysambu which will kick off with 26 blocks of the first 500 units.
According to the President, the 18-acre Roysambu camp will play host to over 3,000 serving soldiers and their families in 980 family quarters and 2,089 single units complete with a shopping unit and a kindergarten area all of which are set to be completed within the next two years.
The units will help address the long-standing issue of housing shortage for soldiers in the country.
