In 1685, twenty years before the Battle of Turin, the young Victor Amadeus II, in Versailles, commissioned this hymn to the musician Jean Baptiste Lully. Originally it was composed to be performed generically by regiments of the Royal House of Savoy. But immediately it became the anthem of the three regiments "Vardie", "Savoy" and "Piemont", later known as the glorious name "La Generala." When the king Victor Amadeus II defeated the French at Turin in 1706 played this glorious Anthem as a symbol of independence and emancipation of Piedmont-Savoy from France. This music is, then as now, the symbol of love and dedication for the Piedmont-Savoy, our Nation.
