UPDATE: In this report, we stated that the border guards on Snake Island were killed during the Russian attack. Our source for this was a statement made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. On Monday, the Ukrainian Navy released a statement indicating at least some of the border guards are alive after surrendering to Russian forces.

Despite seemingly impossible odds of resisting Russia's vast military, many Ukrainians are still unwilling to yield in the face of an overwhelming invasion.
There are already plans to posthumously honour a group of Ukrainian border guards who reportedly told an officer on board a Russian navy warship to "go f--- yourself" when asked to surrender.
The 13 border guards were defending the tiny Snake Island in the Black Sea during Russia's multi-pronged invasion.
