On September 10, we kicked off Virginia's African Diaspora Heritage Month with a commemoration at the Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.
We thank: the VA African Diaspora Committee for making Bill HJ133 proclaiming every September as African Diaspora Heritage Month a reality; Distinguished guests, local leaders - Norfolk Delegate Jackie Hopes Glass and Mayor Dr. Kenny Alexander - and international dignitaries - HE Joaquim do Espírito Santo, Angolan Ambassador to the US - for their attendance and participation; and the Old Dominion University Department of Sociology and Criminal Justice, Office of Academic Affairs, Office of Community Relations, and Office of Intercultural Relations for hosting and making the event physically possible; Eastern VA Medical School for health screenings; and support and funding from VA Humanities, Prosper Africa, and the Hampton Roads Community Foundation.
