These are voracious predators of slugs and snails and will unfortunately devastate the native gastropods of the Southern United States.....but they're almost definitely here to stay. Several were under almost every single rock, leaf and log I turned over my entire two weeks in Florida.
Wild news stories claim these can "CAUSE MENINGITIS," but that's actually also true of all of our native slugs, snails, and many worms to begin with. It's only possible if they contract rat lungworm, and then you have to eat these animals raw and whole to be infected yourself.
