Who were the real black panthers?
They were the 761st Tank Battalion, a segregated unit made up of African American men. They were part of the US Third Army, commanded by Gen. George S. Patton.
They participated in the epic Battle of the Bulge, fought in the Ardennes region between Belgium and Luxembourg. It was a major offensive designed by the German army to halt the Allied forces and get Germany better peace terms.
The 761st Black Panthers were part of the force that eventually beat the German army back and rescued Allied units under siege.
The 761st Tank Battalion also helped to liberate Nazi concentration camps.
