Will the Weber Summit Charcoal Grill get as hot as a ceramic grill like a Big Green Egg or Kamado Joe? The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind...literally.

Today I continue my ongoing review of the Weber Summit Charcoal Grill by exploring a question I’ve gotten multiple times. How hot will the Summit get?

To be honest, this isn’t something I’ve never really questioned. My experience with the Weber Summit is the cooking experience is the same as the Big Green Egg XL and Kamado Joe Big Joe I have had in the past. The Weber summit Charcoal Grill (Grilling Center) is a little more efficient on charcoal and has the adjustable charcoal grate, but the cooking experience is pretty much the same.

That said, I know people have their reasons (#pizza) and I’m more than willing to do a little leg work if that helps the bbq community. Unfortunately I know longer have a Big Green Egg XL to do a side by side comparison but I did throw in some shots of some short ribs on the Big Green Egg (BGE) Minimax just for fun.

As you can see, the cold weather and wind are not really a factor when cooking on this grill. 40 mph winds and freezing outside temps the temperatures were still approaching 750 degrees. Also, keep in mind, I wasn’t trying to “max out” the temps. I shut the Weber Summit vents down once they hit 750 because that’s the maximum temp most ceramic companies advertise as their top end temp…also, I was cold. ;-)

Given enough time, I feel like the Summit would have easily hit 800+.
