The Teutonic Order was founded at the end of the 12th century. They were brought to Polish lands in 1226 by the Piast prince Konrad of Mazovia. The Teutonic Knights were supposed to help Christianize Prussia, but instead of sticking to their calling, after a short time they began looting territories belonging to Poland and posed an increasing threat to us.
For the next several hundred years, Poland fought many wars with the Teutonic Order. The most famous clash between the Polish-Lithuanian army and the monastic state is the Battle of Grunwald in 1410, in which the combined forces of Poland and Lithuania were victorious, and the Order's Grand Master Ulrich von Jungingen lost his life.
