In Arizona’s win over New Mexico State, wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan set a new school record with 304 yards on 10 catches, with four touchdowns.
Quarterback Noah Fifita threw for 422 yards.
The Polynesian duo have some of the intangibles, but Fifita is only 5’10,” quite undersized for a Power Five quarterback.
McMillan and Fifita have something else though: chemistry.
The best friends have been playing football together since 8th grade, when McMillan joined Fifita’s Orange County Buckeyes and changed from quarterback to receiver.
They played in high school together at Servite, and while Fifita and two other teammates committed to Arizona, McMillan went with Oregon. However, after coaching changes with the Ducks, he flipped to the Wildcats.
When Arizona head coach Jedd Fisch took the Washington job in the offseason, many expected his star QB and receiver to follow.
But McMillan and Fifita choose to stay in Tucson, where they are favorites to win their new conference, the Big 12.
