The American company Lockheed Martin has already developed and successfully tested a new missile for HIMARS and M270 multiple launch rocket systems.
This missile is called the Precision Strike Missile- PrSM. And it will have to replace the ATACMS missile.
There are also rumors that they want to test this new missile in the war in Ukraine, and perhaps it will be delivered to Ukraine shortly.
The peculiarity of this new missile is that its range will reach 650 km. In comparison, ATACMS missiles fly up to 300 km.
Earlier, high-ranking US officials said they would not supply Ukraine with ATACMS missiles. Perhaps they wouldn't. But it is likely that much better missiles will be delivered to Ukraine.
PrSM missiles are slightly smaller in radius than the ATACMS missile. It is lighter and can fly twice as far. In recent tests conducted in the United States, this rocket flew 500 km. And after a slight refinement of the rocket engine, it will be able to hit targets at a distance of 650 km.
In addition, one Himars launcher will fit two missiles at once, and M270 launcher fits four missiles, which is twice as much as ATACMS.
And yet, Lockheed Martin notes that the new missile will be much more efficient and cheaper than ATACMS.
It is also known that the missile's warhead is an "optimized unitary warhead", which should have the same power as that of ATACMS.
In other words, they made the rocket lighter and smaller but with the same power.
All this is thanks to the most modern technologies. Russia doesn't have access to these and apparently will not have them in the near future.
But the main advantage of the new PrSM missile is that it can pursue moving targets, which is revolutionary in itself.
The PrSM missile can destroy moving ground and sea targets thanks to the multi-mode homing head. Given a range of 650 km, HIMARS missile systems located in the Ukrainian city of Odesa, for example, will be able to pursue and destroy Russian ships throughout the Black Sea.
In this case, the existence of the entire Black Sea Fleet of Russia becomes meaningless.
Now Russia is shelling Ukrainian civilian cities with Kalibr missiles from ships in the Black Sea. They are out of range for Ukraine. But with the acquisition of new missiles from Lockheed Martin, Russia risks losing all of its surface ships.
Also, such a missile can destroy moving trains carrying ammunition and armored vehicles, which will be a big shock for Russia.
It is known that the United States has already issued orders for the supply of the first 110 PrSM tactical missiles, but mass production is scheduled for 2023.
But no one knows for sure whether this new missile will be handed over to Ukraine. In general, we see the United States is very cautious about the supply of super-powerful weapons to Ukraine. They provide enough to hold back a Russian offensive but not enough to enable Ukraine to counter-offensive as quickly as possible.
Perhaps the United States abandoned the idea of a quick victory over Russia and chose a strategy of exhaustion.
But no matter how events in Ukraine turn, the US army will soon receive new PrSM missiles anyway, and then the US military power will become even more frightening for the Russians!
