3 things you should know about Hawaii’s short-term rental law!
1️⃣ Short-term rentals, also known as vacation rentals, are lodgings that provide guests with accommodations for LESS THAN 30 consecutive days.
2️⃣ Unless you have special approval, short-term rentals are only allowed in resort-zoned areas and certain specific apartment-zoned areas. Most short-term rentals are in the Waikiki and Ko Olina resort areas. But this does not mean that all Waikiki and Ko Olina residential buildings allow short-term rentals. Each building has specific rules on short-term rentals. So do your due diligence before making an offer on a potential short-term rental.
3️⃣ Anyone selling residential property must provide the buyer with a short-term rental disclosure form stating whether the property may be legally used as a short-term rental. The short-term rental must be registered to be in compliance with the law.
