The power of the four Yamanaka factors (OSKM) to reprogram differentiated cells into stem cells is well described. But this powerful reprogramming can cause a cell to lose its identity. A safer approach is partial reprogramming. This can be achieved if the expression of the Yamanaka factors can be controlled.
In a recent study they examine the molecular impact (gene expression, DNA methylation and metabolites) of a single OSKM expression event.
