Cry of the Celts: the legendary opening number of Michael Flatley's Lord of the Dance. Brought to life here on the inaugural UK tour of 25 YEARS OF STANDING OVATIONS by Lord of the Dance Cathal Keaney.
Known internally to the troupe simply as "Run On", Cry of the Celts is a statement: it grabs you by the lapels and makes it clear that what you're about to see is way beyond *anything* you've seen before. This is the birth of Planet Ireland, and from the very beginning, Michael Flatley's immortal choreography shows that the Little Spirit's dream is an emotional rollercoaster.
Cathal Keaney is one of only two successors in the world handpicked by Michael Flatley to wear the Lord of the Dance title belt today. Along with fellow successor Matt Smith, they both bring their own unique interpretations to the role. And, for those of you who have watched their dancing in the past, you'll notice that both of them have not only grown up in front of your eyes, but grown into the role in a huge way. This is extremely important, because there is no Michael Flatley in the wings this time, ready to come out onstage for the show's finale; this is his show and his vision, and he has wholly entrusted his stars to bring it to life. If Dangerous Games (2014-2020) was the passing-of-the-torch transition period -- Michael often joked with the press that his retirement came with twenty years' notice -- then Lord25 is both a coda to the original show's legacy as well as a showcase for the next generation of Irish dance superstars in full flight in Michael's billion-dollar flagship of commercial Irish dancing.
Hold on to the edges of your seats, ladies and gentlemen: this is Cry of the Celts from Lord25, featuring the greatest team of dancers in the world, led by Lord of the Dance Cathal Keaney.
