Synopsis
The bearded vulture is the mythical bird of the Pyrenees. Half eagle, half vulture. The only animal in the world that feeds exclusively on bones. Its beauty flies in parallel with the grandeur of the places where it lives, the National Parks of Ordesa and Monte Perdido and Picos de Europa. The bearded vulture is classified as an endangered bird. Throughout the 20th century, it became extinct in practically all of Europe, except for a few pairs that remained in the Pyrenees. In the face of this extreme situation, institutions, scientists, and volunteers joined forces to save the bearded vulture. A hard task, carried out in high mountain areas, which requires a vocation beyond professionalism. The exhaustive monitoring of each pair of bearded vultures has identified which pairs suffer reproductive failures. The strategy of this plan is to collect the eggs from these nests in the Pyrenees and reproduce them in captivity. When the chicks are about to take their first flight, they are moved to Asturias, to the Picos de Europa National Park, where they will live the rest of their lives.
