*****
WESTERNER is an indie rock band with nu-disco and synth pop flavors in the vein of Foals or Glass Animals. Their songs are at once danceable and mesmerizing. Funky beats and occasional electronics are applied to a showy indie-rock style that can either be danced to or appreciated on a purely musical level. Very savvy pop tunes are deftly mixed with space and synth rock elements to create life-force-celebrating music, both exuberant and infectious. It’s a compliment to say that their music is hard to compare to anybody else’s.
They've racked up over 90k followers on TikTok, an endorsement from VOX Amps, and spins on LA's KCSN 88.5FM and Amazing Radio (Tobi Lynn, Jose Galvan). Their new album got rave reviews from Buzz Bands LA (who included it on their Favorite Songs of 2022), Music Connection, and It’s Psychedelic Baby Magazine. They currently work with world-famous mastering engineer Vlado Meller (Kanye West, Paul McCartney), and mixing engineer Jules de Gasperis (Low Hum, James Supercave).
The trio consists of Cooper Bombadil on vocals, guitar and synth, Brandon Valerino on bass, synth and backing vocals, and Mike Gattshall on drums and samples. Their debut album, "Unreal City," was a sci-fi concept album composed of catchy pop songs, surreal sounds, and strange characters. On August 19th, 2022 they released their new studio album, "Kali Yuga Kama Sutra," through Coconut Spaceship Records, and had their album release show at It’s a School Night. They will soon release animated music videos for every song on “Unreal City” culminating in a psychedelic, musical movie in the tradition of Pink Floyd’s The Wall, or Heavy Metal. Most recently they played the Troubadour to a packed house and are currently lining up shows for 2023.
