STORYLINE:
German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Friday the package of incentives offered to Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program is an "unbelievable chance" for Tehran.
Speaking after meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah II in Berlin, Merkel appealed for "everybody to see that chance and build on it."
The package of perks and penalties was agreed upon in Vienna on Thursday by the five permanent members of the U.N. Security Council (The United States, Britain, France, Germany, Russia and China) and Germany.
They carry the threat of UN sanctions if Tehran remains defiant.
The United States, in a major policy shift, also agreed conditionally this week to join a fresh round of talks.
King Abdullah urged all parties to work towards finding a diplomatic solution.
On Friday Iranian officials insisted the country was determined to push ahead with its nuclear program but were silent over the new package of incentives.
