After a week in the Lake District I decided to stop off in the Yorkshire Dales at Bolton Abbey Caravan and Motorhome Club on my way home. Bolton Abbey is a 12th century priory ruin with walks and cafe all nearby situated on the River Wharf. It’s a popular spot for day trippers but the campsite is situated far enough away to avoid any hustle and bustle, but close enough for a scenic walk to see the Abbey and stop off at the cafe.

The ‘Valley of Desolation’ sounds dark and dramatic but in actual fact, it’s a pretty waterfall which is easily found not too far from the main Bolton Abbey car park by the river. Worth the walk to see this magical little place.

On the way, you’ll pass ‘The Strid’ which is another seemingly small waterfall where the River Wharf narrows to just a couple of meters in width. The waterfall looks small on the surface but the water below is deep and dangerous…. Be careful…. The rocks surrounding the Strid are a bit slippy!! 🤣
