I haven't seen any videos of the Kia Niro using its SCC mode on the freeway, so I figured I'd post something. Here's a quick clip showing how powerful the Kia Smart Cruise Control with Stop and Go really is. I'm coming home from the foot doctor with a medical boot on my foot so this technology really helped me out. And for those of you that think this is dangerous, I could operate the pedals just fine with the boot on. So off the freeway, I drove the Niro just like a normal car.
On a separate note, I drove from Santa Monica all the way to Lincoln Heights on nothing but the EV battery (in stop-and-go traffic), which was about 28 miles. When I got home I still had 40% of the battery left! So the advertised range limit is really dependent on the driving conditions. Since I was in traffic the whole way home, I rarely drove above 15-20 mph the entire time, which made the battery last forever.
UPDATE: Kia obviously sent an over-the-air update to my car and extended the period of time you can sit in traffic before having to press the RESUME button. I haven't had to press that button in LA traffic for a year now! It's really great.
