Stiff Neck is usually caused by spondylosis or the degeneration of the spine, whenever the disc that is situated in between the vertebral bodies or in between the bones of the neck, it collapses and when it collapses it puts pressure in the joints of the neck and the joints are calked as facet joints. So when there is pressure of facet joints, then there can be arthritis join, so we call it as facet joint arthritis. So the combined augmentation of the disc as well as the facet joints produces Stiff Neck. Another reasons for Stiff Neck is inflammatory arthritis of the spine, like in spondylarthtis or ankylosing spondylitis. So this is the inflammatory disorder that affects the whole of the spine and it affect the neck. So these ere are various other reasons like infection of the bones can also produce Stiff Neck. Also infection of the throat. The tonsillitis can also produce Stiff Neck.
