In this video, “The Therapeutic Relationship,” mental health professionals from Algoma Family Services provide some strategies and tools to establish and maintain helpful relationships. They also discuss how to manage some more difficult events that may arise when caring for someone with mental health needs. Although these videos were designed primarily as supports to individuals engaged in respite services (i.e., providing respite to families of children with complex needs), we hope they may help anyone in a caring relationship. For example, we hope that parents, grandparents, foster parents, therapists, teachers, educational assistants – and really anyone in a helping role – may find these videos valuable in supporting others with mental health issues.
