KUSHMANDA MANTRA
Om Devi Kushmandayai Namaha
The fourth incarnation of Goddess Parvati is Kushmanda and she is worshipped on the fourth day of Navaratri. It is stated that after taking the form of Siddhidatri she started living inside the center of the Sun and is responsible for emitting its light and energy and hence is known as Kushmanda where Ku means a little, ushma means warmth or energy and anda means cosmic egg. Goddess Kushmanda created the Universe or Brahmanda with her smile. She also likes the Bali of the white pumpkin called the kushmanda from which the name Kushmanda was derived.
Goddess Kushmanda is depicted riding a lioness, she has eight hands holding kamandal, Dhanush, Bada and Kamal on right side hands, and Amrit Kalash, Japa mala, Gada and chakra in the left side hands, because of which she is also known as Ashtabhuja Devi. She blesses her devotees with Siddhis and Niddhis through the power of her Japa mala. She blesses her devotees with good health, wealth and strength. With celestial powers, She created Mahakali, Mahalaxmi, Mahaswaraswati, Brahama, Vishu, and Shiva-Shakti. By the unified reflection of these three Kushmanda, she is known as Smaanda Devi.
