Rajma chawal is love ❤️
Super simple to make, tastes delicious. Must try it out!
Ingredients I used:
- 1 cup rajma beans + water for soaking
- 1/2 inch cinnamon
- 1 black cardamom
- 1 bay leaf
- water for boiling
- salt
For masala:
- 2 tbsps oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1/2 tsp jeera/cumin seeds
- 1 cup/2 onions, finely chopped
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 3 tomatoes + water for purée
- salt
- 1/2 tsp turmeric
- 1 tsp red chilli powder
- 1 and 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/4 tsp garam masala
- 1 tsp kasuri methi
- coriander leaves, finely chopped
Procedure:
- Soak rajma in water overnight. Add enough water as rajma will expand when soaked.
- Pressure cook the rajma with water, salt, black cardamom, cinnamon and bayleaf till soft. Took me around 4-5 whistles.
- Purée 3 tomatoes into a smooth paste.
- In a pan heat a mix of oil and butter. Splutter cumin seeds, add onions, ginger garlic paste and fry well.
- Add puréed tomatoes and masalas. Let the tomatoes cook down completely till it leaves oil on sides.
- Add boiled rajma and let it simmer for another 10-15 mins till flavorful.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and kasuri methi.
Serve with some jeera rice. Enjoy!
