(9 Oct 2018) Taiwan's military conducted a joint force exercise at the army base in Taoyuan on Tuesday to test its combat readiness and capabilities.
The joint land and air tactical training exercise was conducted by the Army's 6th Corps, simulating an attempt by mock enemy forces to land and attack the air base.
Paraguayan President Mario Abdo Benítez was invited to watch the exercise with President Tsai Ing-wen.
Military spokesperson Chen Chung-chi said inviting Abdo Benítez to watch the exercise would help strengthen the friendship between the two countries.
Abdo Benitez arrived in Taipei on Sunday for his first state visit after he was sworn into office in August.
President Tsai welcomed Abdo Benitez and his wife Silvana Lopez Moreira de Abdo with full military honours on Monday.
During Abdo Benitez's six-day stay, he plans to engage in cultural activities and attend Taiwan's National Day celebrations on Wednesday.
Taiwan and Paraguay have maintained diplomatic ties since 1957.
Paraguay is one of the few countries that have full diplomatic relations with the island of Taiwan.
