This 2020 Subaru Legacy sedan with only 93,xxx miles was driven through a flooded street and the next day the power steering quit working, it gets incredibly stiff and the light on the dash iluminates.
After reading the codes and searching for similar problems all I found was the need to replace the steering rack almost $800 for a refurbished and a lot of work + the need for steering alignement after.
I went on CAR-PART.COM which lists the inventory of junk yards around me and found a low mileage from LQK for less than $200.
I figured out on my own that I could SWAPP ONLY THE MOTOR ( wich also has electronics inside it ) and that made the whole thing so much easier.
I left the steering straight, removed the PS motor and then I hooked the motor from the used part ( left it hanging on the stabilizer bar by the connetors with a hook ) and connected the plugs and re started and the light went out ( dont touch the steering wheel , dont turn it ) so I'd proceed with the swapping the motor and reseting the ECU afterwards.
Be carefull not to use power tool to remove the hex 3 bolds as it can easily strip!
The smaller connector has some correct way of releasing it
It looks like the FORESTER and some IMPREZA also has the eletric motor on its power steering, maybe just not the same part.
