BMW is reinforcing its commitment to traditional driving experiences by offering a manual transmission in more models, including the 2025 Z4 M40i. Priced at $70,945 after destination fees, this manual variant is $3,500 more than its automatic counterpart and significantly pricier than the manual Toyota Supra. The Z4 M40i's six-speed manual gearbox has been specifically tailored to its engine, featuring customized gear sets and shafts, and a refined shift lever mechanism. This aims to enhance the driver's mechanical connection with the car.
Performance-wise, the manual Z4 M40i introduces several improvements such as specialized springs, a stronger anti-roll bar clamp, and software updates to the steering, traction control, and suspension systems. These enhancements augment the driving experience over the automatic version. It maintains the same power from its turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six engine but is slightly slower in acceleration compared to the automatic.
Externally, the manual Z4 is distinguishable by BMW's Shadowline trim and exclusive color options. Inside, it offers unique Vernasca leather upholstery options. Despite sharing much of its architecture with the less expensive Supra, the manual Z4 commands a significant premium, particularly noteworthy for a soft-top model. Production is set to begin in March, with deliveries starting in late spring or early summer.
