Big vs Boutique Consulting Firms | Which would be right for you? I've worked in both big and boutique consulting firms, and there's no real answer on which is better as it is mostly subjective, but here is what you need to make your decision on what is best for your career!

What makes a BIG or a BOUTIQUE firm can be very subjective. Accenture could be viewed as a big boutique consulting firm as it does "specialize" in technology, but they also have a variety of other professional services. There is no real clear divide, but most people do associate the Big 3 or MBB (McKinsey, Bain, and BCG) and Big 4 (EY, PwC, Deloitte, and KPMG) as the big firms.

Big firms could be great for students trying to explore new fields, and boutique firms could be great for experienced hires with some experience and industry knowledge already. Vice versa, big firms could be good to break out into other fields for experienced hires as well, and boutique firms could be great for ownership and more hands-on experience for students! It's all about how you want to pivot your career.
