National Theatre Wales (NTW) is Wales’s English-language national theatre. It stages work in unconventional spaces: on trains, beaches and mountains, in warehouses, nightclubs and libraries, all over towns and online. It has a pioneering network of more than 900 team members who create, organise, give feedback and have a central role in the company. NTW makes extraordinary theatre, rooted in Wales but with an international reach.
Cotton Fingers is a politically charged monologue written by Welsh author and playwright Rachel Trezise. It follows a young woman’s journey from Belfast to Cardiff to end her pregnancy. Since abortion is illegal in Northern Ireland, she travels to Wales for her termination. With high production values, the piece explores women’s rights through elegant, concise writing. It portrays a gusty, complex character with a compelling solo performance. Cotton Fingers is about secrecy, class and the power women hold – or not – over their futures.
Cotton Fingers is in Edinburgh as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
The British Council’s biennial Edinburgh Showcase is the single biggest opportunity for UK theatre companies to introduce their work to international promoters. The programme comprises new work that represents the very best of contemporary theatre and dance, reflecting the breadth and diversity of British performing arts. The 2019 Edinburgh Showcase takes place between Monday 19-Saturday 24 August 2019.
