To find three equivalent fraction for 5, it is helpful to think of 5 as 5/1. That gives us a fraction equivalent to 5.
We could then more easily find equivalent ratios for 5.
5/1 x 2/2 = 10/2
Since 2/2 = 1 and multiplying by 1 does not change the value.
If we multiply:
5/1 x 3/3 = 15/3
Here again, since 3/3 = 1 we aren't changing the value, just the way it is written. Both 5/1 and 15/3 have the same decimal value.
We could also multiply by 4/4, 5/5 and so on to find more fractions that are equal to 5/1. As long as we are multiplying by the equivalent of 1, we'll get a fraction that is the same as 5/1 or just 5.
