On September 16, 2016 ADOT imploded the old SR 89 Hell Canyon Bridge north of Prescott, Arizona because it no longer met state and federal design standards for large and heavy vehicles.
Before demolishing this 62-year-old bridge, ADOT built a new bridge that is 65 ft. longer and 17 ft. wider. It has 12-foot lanes and 10-foot shoulders so it will better accommodate oversized loads.
