MASSOB and IPOB called for Sit-at-Home protest in South Eastern states of Nigeria to celebrate Biafra Day 2017. Many places in the region were at a standstill as many pro-Biafrans complied with the order.
Businesses closed their shops as roads were empty to mark this year's Biafra Day in Anambra, Enugu and other places.
Economic activities ground to a halt in most Southeastern States as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) enforced a sit-at-home order.
On May 30, 1967, Dim Emeka Odimegwu Ojukwu declared the entire eastern region, the Republic of Biafra.
His declaration sparked a bloody civil war in Nigeria two months later.
The Biafra war began on July 6, 1967 and ended on January 15, 1970.
The eastern region suffered the most casualties--by most accounts, over one million persons lost their lives in eastern and southern Nigeria.
