This easy chocolate fudge cake recipe comes out at only 29p per slice and it is delicious. A beautiful moist chocolate cake with chocolate fudge icing and filling. Baking this chocolate cake is very simple and the taste is superb. The whole cake is only £2.05 which really is baking on a budget. Here is a list of the ingredients and baking method.


200g / 7oz Plain flour 0.10
1 tsp Bicarb of soda 0.02
1 tsp Baking powder 0.03
Pinch of salt 0.00
60g / 2.1oz Brown sugar 0.17
60g / 2.1oz white sugar 0.07
1 egg 0.13
60ml veg oil 0.10
60g / 2.8oz Cocoa Powder 0.36
200ml hot water 0.00

100g / 3.5oz Dark Chocolate 0.65
110ml Single cream 0.42

Total cost 2.05

The Cake.

Mix the Flour, baking powder, bicarb, and sugars together in a bowl.
Mix together. Then add the egg and oil and combine.

Add the hot water to the cocoa powder and stir well.

Add the cocoa mix to the other ingredients and mix well until you have a smooth batter.

Bake for 40 - 45mins at 180c / 356f / gas mark 4

The Icing.

Melt the dark chocolate and stir in the cream.
Set aside to cool before spreading on the cake.

When everything has cooled, cut the cake in half, spread some of the icing on one half and then put the cake back together and spread the rest of the icing on the top.

Allow to chill in the fridge to let the icing set.
