⚠️ Warning: some bright colours, mild flashing lights ⚠️
First post of 2023! Hope you all had a happy new year 🥳
Like last video, this one is about Prussia, but this time it's covering the Franco-Prussian War. (Calling it the Franco-German War would be more correct, but this is what Wikipedia calls it...)
Okay, before I explain the history (which I refrained to do last vid... what was me-from-two-months-ago thinking?) lemme tell you a bit of the making of this one:
First of all, the newest Flipaclip update has blessed us with more brushes as well as FREE LAYERS?! (after watching an ad of course,) I can't express how useful this is; I used 6 on this project alone!
With all the new brushes, I decided to experiment on some new styles: sketchy and lineless are what I tried here. I think they turned out ok, so I'll probably try them again in the future.
Okay now the history. If I get any of this wrong, please tell me!
So basically (not really), Prussia had recently showed up on the scene becoming more powerful and beating everybody up, and France was feeling threatened from their status of being the most powerful on the continent. And when Spain asks for the Prussian king to take their vacant throne, this leads to France confronting Prussia (which was actually the North German Confederation after 1866... I'll just say Prussia). (0:05-0:14)
Wilhelm I (the king of Prussia) sends a reply, which is in turn edited by Bismarck, who makes it sound more insulting to France. (0:09, 0:11, 0:13)
France consequently declares war in July 1870, and the the German states who had not yet unified with Prussia join the war against France.
In September, the Battle of Sedan takes place, where Napoleon III is captured. News of this reaches Paris, where a revolution happens and the Third French Republic is proclaimed while still being at war with Prussia (0:44-0:48). They continue the war for around five more months (0:49).
Paris is then besieged until January 28th (today!) when it falls (0:51). The Treaty of Frankfurt signed in May officially ends the war. (1:15, also I probably should've made the number in the background 5 billion for 5 billion francs instead of 1 billion for 1 billion dollars... oops)
The war ends quicker than expected, with Prussia winning and the remaining German states (except Austria) having formed the German Empire on January 18, 1871 (1:13).
This new empire was a significant change in Europe, but after this, at least between France and Germany, everything was _relatively_ calm... (1:20)
...until 1914. (1:21)
I think that's enough info for this description, I hope you enjoyed my animation and that you have a nice day! 🌟
*Oh wait, one more thing, I might be taking a little break from historical stuff, so don't expect a continuation of this, at least for my very next video.
